Preface
This introductory chapter is particularly concerned with exploring the nature, characteristics and implications of the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH). The major purpose of this study is to raise basic questions about developmental strategies in Bhutan by examining the concept of GNH and the relevance of this study would contribute on the existing theoretical understanding of development and the study will focus on the four core pillars of the GNH model, which are the achievement of (1) equitable socio-economic development, (2) preservation and promotion of culture, (3) Environmental conservation and sustainability and (4) Good governance.
